Accordions

This component delivers large amounts of content that would otherwise consume a lot of vertical space on a page through progressive disclosure. This component helps the user quickly survey the “big picture” with the data on the page and gives them a quick way to delve deeper into the content they want to see at that moment. This helps users focus by reducing clutter, confusion, and cognitive load.

Expand/Collapse Behaviors

Accordions can operate as either single-select or multi-select.

  • Single-select allows only one panel to be expanded at any given time. Expanding a panel collapses the previously expanded panel.
  • Multi-select allows more than one panel to be expanded at any given time. Expanding a panel has no impact on the other panels.
